Service should feel precise, honest and comfortable from the first phone call through pickup.
Use the maintenance schedule for your exact vehicle and describe your mileage, driving conditions and service history. Oil type and service intervals can vary, so ask the shop to confirm the appropriate specification rather than choosing an interval from a generic rule.
Describe any noise, vibration, pulling or change in pedal feel, including when it happens. Those details help guide an inspection; they do not identify the failed part on their own. Ask which components need attention and what the recommended repair includes before authorizing work.
Note when the warning appeared, whether it stays on or flashes, and any change in how the vehicle runs. Share recent repairs and the conditions when the problem occurs. A warning code is a starting point for testing, not proof that a particular part should be replaced.
A shifting complaint needs evaluation before choosing a repair or replacement. Tell the shop whether the problem occurs cold, after driving, or during a specific gear change. Ask for the findings and available repair options instead of assuming that the symptom identifies the entire transmission as faulty.
Write down when the concern occurs, any warning messages and recent maintenance. Intermittent symptoms are easier to explain with a clear record of speed, temperature and driving conditions. Ask what testing is proposed and how the findings will guide the repair recommendation.

Import Specialty Service did a great job at a reasonable price; I've done business with Ryder in the past and they are fast becoming my go-to destination for BMW service - professional, honest and good people!Posted on Google![]()

TLDR: They could have easily had me pay for a repair I already thought I needed, but they were honest and told me it wasn't necessary at the time. Had a great first experience with Import Specialty Service. I went in telling them that I thought my front breaks might need to be replaced because they were squeaking. The rear breaks had been replaced about 8 months ago and at the time the other shop (Firestone) I went to suggested I do the front as well even though they weren't in that bad of shape according to them. I opted not to at the time, putting the repair off to spread out expenses. With the closing of the Volvo dealership in Downtown Nashville I was in search of a new shop that could better service our Volvo when it came to more complex maintenance than I trusted a standard shop to complete. Long story short it turns out the front breaks were still OK, and didn't need to be replaced yet. The squeaking was coming from the new rear breaks, but they told me the pads were plenty thick, and it was just a noise on account of the cheaper after market parts that had been used for that repair. So they saved me a bunch of money I didn't need to spend even though they could have gotten away with it. I also had them replace the spark plugs since it was due in the maintenance schedule for the vehicle based on mileage. Which was another reason I'd brought the car in. The spark plug replacement on our 2021 Volvo was no more expensive than the one I had done at another shop for our 2011 Toyota Sienna mini van, so I was pleasantly surprised with the price as I always expect to pay more for repairs on our Volvo/European cars.Posted on Google![]()
